Baby Update

A few weeks ago while doing an ultrasound our Dr. alerted us of some problems he found. After an additional ultrasound by a specialist we have been told our new baby has Achondroplasia, which is a form of dwarfism. We were very shocked and went through a time of sadness and disbelief, but have found peace through our Heavenly Father and his plan for us. We know she is a special spirit and feel blessed to have her in our family. At this time, everything looks normal, except her arms and legs….this means she will be smart and live a fairly normal life despite her disabilities. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have.

This conditions does create a lot of concern with a natural childbirth. For this reason I’ll be having a c-section in Sacrament where they have more specialists. After her birth she will go through genetic testing (to determine 100% what kind of dwarfism she has) and xrays (to make she all organs are healthy and normal). If any additional care or surgery is needed they will let us know then.

We know we will love and adore her and hope to be the best parents and big sister we can. Thank you for your love and support and we can’t wait for you to meet Madilynn Grace Laufer when she makes her grand entrance to this Earthly life!!

Love,
Alex, Kerri and Alexa

Have just found your blogspot through Ure. Last May our Grandson Caden, was born with Achon. The exact same thing happened to my daughter as you. We were all in shock and disbelief. The "unknown" was so unsettling. But, on May 20, our precious Caden was born..What an absolute doll and one of the joys of our lives! We always say God must have really trusted us to give us Caden. He is a true joy and the happiest little guy ever! We would love to stay in touch with you and pray for your family.
Blessings, Beth Lowney

Hello!

I just wanted to leave you a comment to let you know that if your child does have achondroplasia, she'll be just fine! I myself have a dwarfism but a different type.
I know it must be scary, but take heart that she'll do great! I know many individuals with achon who are college graduates, lawyers, doctors, teachers, etc...Many are married and have children of their own!
All you can do is raise her like any other child when it comes to discipline, chores, education, goals, and expectations in life..
Lastly, LPA is a wonderful group for your family to get involved with! It's great for children with a dwarfism to have friends like them and rolemodels with it as well to see life can be awesome, but it's up to them!

Good luck! :)
