What's your advice??!?!

Since Alexa was last sick she is having a hard time sleeping. She is waking up 3 and 4 times a night and I don't understand it!! After trying everything I end up nursing her and then she'll go back to sleep. It's worse now than when she was 6 months old. What should I do??? Turn the monitor off and let her cry herself back to sleep.....or stop nursing?? Which one will help her sleep through the night?? What's your opinion? What have you done??

Joshie didn't sleep through the night until we stopped nursing at 13 months. Turns out that I'm so much fun, he just wanted to be with me even more.

Hmm, no advice just wanted to commiserate with you since Gabriel still does the same thing. He pretty much sleeps with us though so at least I don't have to move out of bed.

Hey Kerri, you have to do what works for you and I also think each baby is different - I've had the best success with letting my little ones cry. It's the hardest thing to do, but for me, it was always worth it. I am also a big believer in weening at 12 months. Why can't kids just always sleep through the night, huh? Good luck!;)

First of all, the number one parenting rule is to follow your own intuition. That said, I could only get my boys to sleep thorugh the night by letting them cry. People have different approaches to letting them cry, but for me, it means turing off the monitor, shutting all doors and putting a pillow over my head. 2-3 nights and they all slept through the night. And usually I have to do it again after they are sick, or when we travel. But now that Kyle and Dylan are 7 and 5, I don't have to do it anymore. I didn't stop nursing Ryan until last month (he's 15 months). He didn't sleep through the night until a week or so before that.

I know I'm not a mother so my words don't have much sway, but I claim Jaron as my experience :-) I totally agree with what others have said about following intuition, every child is different, do what works for you, etc. My most humble suggestion is try to do what ever you did to get her to sleep thru the night in the first place. Children are creatures of habit. And whatever you decide, stick to your guns. Don't give in.
We didn't train Jaron to put himself to sleep til he was approx 18months old. We followed Dr. Karp's method in "Happiest Toddler on the Block" and it did the trick in 3 days, but the first night he fought and cried for ~2hrs. (P.S. I know this is kinda long, you don't have to post it iff you don't want)
